January 22, 2021

This week, we had two meetings on Tuesday, January 19th, the Work Session and the Board Meeting.

At the January 19th Work Session:

  • Wade Martin, Assistant Superintendent for School Choice, Planning and Assignment, Kimberly Lane, Senior Director – Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs, and Tamani Anderson-Powell, Director – Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs provided an update regarding the district's Magnet and Early College recruitment for 2020-2021.   • Danya Perry, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity-Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce presented information about the A Better Wake initiative. Please click here to access their PowerPoint.
  • The Wake County Human Services Health Team provided an update about the COVID vaccine. Their presentation can be viewed here.
  • Dr. Benjamin with the ABC Science Collaborative presented an update, which can be accessed here.

    At the January 19th Board Meeting:
  • Superintendent Moore provided an update about 2nd Semester. There are multiple items staff is working on providing such as survey/feedback process to seek input from all staff and families, dropout and engagement information, grade update, etc.
  • The board voted to extend the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) Leave. FFCRA provides 80 hours of paid sick leave for an employee who has to miss work for a COVID-related reason, which includes caring for a family member who is subject to a quarantine/isolation order or who has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine related to COVID-19. FFCRA also provides up to 12 weeks of expanded Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) at 2/3 the employee's regular rate of pay where an employee is unable to work due to a need for leave to care for a child whose school or childcare provider is closed or unavailable for reasons related to COVID.  
  • The board approved spending $330,00 of grant funds on the YMCA of the Triangle Association Resource Center. The details of the contract can be viewed here.

  • Monday, January 25th at 3 pm-Student Achievement Committee
  • Tuesday, January 26th at 3 pm-Policy Committee
  • Wednesday, January 27th at 3pm-Safety and Security Meeting*

    On January 13th, the NC DHHS updated their fact sheet with additional information. You can access the fact sheet here. 

    This Thursday, January 28th, at 5:30 pm, there is a BAC9 meeting.

    This week as a Board, we had three meetings on Tuesday, April 20th: Finance Committee, Work Session, and Board Meeting.     April 30, 2021

    On Wednesday morning, I attended the student-led Tobacco-Free Community Forum. The students did a great job with presentations, voicing their concerns, and advocating. To view information about the event, click  here . Later on Wednesday, I attended two additional events: the East Cary Middle School Student Showcase and a press conference. From World Languages to Art to Culinary Club, the Student Showcase was fabulous! It was nice to see the creative student assignments and activities. The joint press conference with the County Commissioners was to announce a new initiative- ThreeSchool. Please note, the details shared during the press conference were the first details to be shared with the majority of the Board. This link provides information about ThreeSchool. On Thursday, I visited Northwoods Elementary and Kingswood Elementary. Seeing the students engaged, playing, and learning made for an outstanding morning.     April 9, 2021

     As a Board, we had two meetings this week on Tuesday, April 6th: Work Session and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, April 6th Work Session: Dr. Muttillo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, shared an update on current recruitment efforts for teachers.  Drew Cook, Assistant Superintendent for Academics, and Alicia Miller, Director, Curriculum and Instruction; presented an overview of District staff's current recommendations and planning for the 2021-22 Virtual Academy including operational considerations, key factors, and a general timeline for next steps. *Please note that District staff has adjusted some of their recommendations since Tuesday.** To view the most recent information about the Virtual Academy for 2021-22, access this link .  To view the Work Session presentation, click here .
