This week, we had two meetings on Tuesday, January 19th, the Work Session and the Board Meeting.

At the January 19th Work Session:

  • Wade Martin, Assistant Superintendent for School Choice, Planning and Assignment, Kimberly Lane, Senior Director – Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs, and Tamani Anderson-Powell, Director – Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs provided an update regarding the district's Magnet and Early College recruitment for 2020-2021.   • Danya Perry, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity-Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce presented information about the A Better Wake initiative. Please click here to access their PowerPoint.
  • The Wake County Human Services Health Team provided an update about the COVID vaccine. Their presentation can be viewed here.
  • Dr. Benjamin with the ABC Science Collaborative presented an update, which can be accessed here.

    At the January 19th Board Meeting:
  • Superintendent Moore provided an update about 2nd Semester. There are multiple items staff is working on providing such as survey/feedback process to seek input from all staff and families, dropout and engagement information, grade update, etc.
  • The board voted to extend the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) Leave. FFCRA provides 80 hours of paid sick leave for an employee who has to miss work for a COVID-related reason, which includes caring for a family member who is subject to a quarantine/isolation order or who has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine related to COVID-19. FFCRA also provides up to 12 weeks of expanded Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) at 2/3 the employee's regular rate of pay where an employee is unable to work due to a need for leave to care for a child whose school or childcare provider is closed or unavailable for reasons related to COVID.  
  • The board approved spending $330,00 of grant funds on the YMCA of the Triangle Association Resource Center. The details of the contract can be viewed here.

  • Monday, January 25th at 3 pm-Student Achievement Committee
  • Tuesday, January 26th at 3 pm-Policy Committee
  • Wednesday, January 27th at 3pm-Safety and Security Meeting*

    This Thursday, January 28th, at 5:30 pm, there is a BAC9 meeting.

  • Please remember on Sunday, January 31st at 4 pm, I will be holding a D9 Connection Meeting. This is a very informal meeting for me to hear directly from people in District 9 about your concerns and feedback. If you would like to attend, please use this Google Meet link.

    This week, we had two meetings on Tuesday, January 5th, the Work Session and our Board Meeting.  At the January 5th Work Session: Dr. Zimmerman provided an update from the ABC Science Collaborative. Mr. Koh, the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, and Ms. Creech, the Director of Health Services, presented an update on case investigation and contact tracing. They also reviewed the decision-making process for when a classroom, grade level, or school might close. Dr. Muttillo, the Assistant Superintendent of HR, shared the substitute teacher survey results and details about the new sub recruitment plan and proposed incentive plan. Mr. Coe, the Director of Athletics, and Mr. Fitts, Senior Director of Middle School Programs, provided an update on high school and middle school athletics.     On Thursday, I attended Cary High School's Midyear Graduation. It was an honor to be able to celebrate the graduates' accomplishments. Congrats grads and families! On Friday and Saturday, I had planned to attend the WCPSS Cheer Competition (Middle and High School) at Green Hope High School; however, due to WCPSS canceling all extracurricular activities on Saturday, the event has been postponed. This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Special Called Board Meeting and Policy Committee. The Student Achievement Committee Meeting was canceled due to WCPSS being closed. At the Tuesday, January 25th Special Called Board Meeting: *The Board voted unanimously that Board members will not engage in any communications with anyone other than staff or counsel about the District 4 vacancy.  Board members will forward to the full Board any information received regarding the District 4 vacancy.  If you have questions about the vacancy, you are free to send an email to district4vacancy@wcpss...
