 This week as a Board, we had three meetings: Work Session, Board Meeting, and Facilities Committee. At the Tuesday, June 21st Work Session: Dr. Gardner, Chief of Staff and Strategic Planning; Dr. McMillen, Assistant Superintendent, Data, Research, and Accountability; Michael Martin, Educational Consultant, RTI Education Services; and Dr. Nash, Educational Consultant, RTI Education Services; continued to guide discussions with the Board in support of the Strategic Plan. This week was full of celebrations! On Monday, I attended Score Academy's Graduation. On Tuesday, I attended Apex Friendship's Graduation. On Wednesday, I attended Cary and Green Hope's graduations. On Thursday, I attended Apex High School's graduation. Later on Thursday, I hosted another D9 Connection Meeting.  Congratulations to all the 2022 graduates! Thank you to the staff, families, and community supporters for encouraging these students along the way. This week as a Board, we had no meetings. On Monday, I visited Ms. McCaslin's 8th grade class at Mills Park Middle School for student presentations on sustainability. The students had researched concerns, chosen some possible solutions, created models, and did a fantastic job articulating their ideas and findings. On Thursday, I visited Lincoln Heights Environmental Connections Magnet Elementary School to see and learn more about the work being done around sustainability. Laura Wood, the Environmental Connections Integration Specialist, provided a wonderful tour and shared exciting information about the great things happening at Lincoln Heights.  On Friday, I had the honor of attending the Project SEARCH Graduation! Monday was Memorial Day. It was a beautiful day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Country. On Wednesday, I hosted a D9 Connection Meeting. This week as a Board, we had one meeting: Policy Committee. At the Tuesday, May 31st Policy Committee Meeting: Dr. McMillen, Assistant Superintendent, Data, Research, and Accountability; presented a revised Board Policy 3410: Testing and Assessment Program. The revisions reflect updates made by the North Carolina School Boards Association. There were adjustments suggested by the Board. This revised policy will be presented for first reading at the June 7th Board Meeting. To review the revised policy, click here . Emily Mountford, Senior Director, Office of Professional Learning; presented a new Board policy.  Policy 3432: Professional Learning Communities will be a WCPSS-specific policy as there is no corresponding NC School Boards Association policy.
