On Wednesday, I hosted a Board Advisory Council (BAC) Meeting. Please read to the end of this entry to learn more about the meeting. On Thursday, I visited the Connections Academy. I appreciate all the important work the staff, students, and families are doing at Connections. On Friday evening, I will be attending the Green Hope vs. Panther Creek High School Football Game. This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Work Session and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, September 21st Work Session: Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services; and Kelly Creech, Senior Director, Health Services, shared information about staff vaccinations and testing and student testing. On Monday, I hosted a D9 Connection Meeting. On Wednesday, I attended the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Annual Banquet. The Chamber presented awards for Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and Ambassador of the Year. On Friday, I visited Reedy Creek Elementary and Reedy Creek Middle School. It was fantastic to see students "flying into" Letterland, excited to have learned about animals, and more. I am grateful to all the school staff for continuing to connect with students and for the support our families give our staff and school communities. On Friday evening, I will be attending the Cary High vs. Green Level football game. On Saturday, I will wrap up my week volunteering at Weatherstone Elementary School's Edible Garden Fall Cleanup Event. This week as a Board, we had one meeting: Facilities Committee. On Wednesday, I watched the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee Meeting. Dr. Tammie Sexton, Area Superintendent, and Mr. Seydric Williams, Area Superintendent, provided an overview of the 2021-22 school year related to COVID guidance and considerations. I'm very grateful for the work staff is doing, the relationships they are building, the opportunities students are given, and the perseverance of the students. On Saturday, I will be attending the Bands of Cary Event featuring Green Hope, Cary, Green Level, and Panther Creek High School's mass performance of the Star-Spangled Banner and each of the bands performing excerpts from their shows. On Sunday, I hosted a D9 Connection Meeting. On Monday, I met with a Certified Industrial Hygienist to learn more about the role of an Industrial Hygienist. To read the American Industrial Hygiene Association's guidance for schools, click here . On Thursday, I visited Briarcliff Elementary. I really enjoyed seeing multiple outdoor learning spaces being utilized by students and staff (snack and story time), students collaborating with partners, and some great artwork.  This week as a Board, we had one meeting: Policy Committee. At the Tuesday, August 31st Policy Committee Meeting: Dr. Julie Crain, Director of Strategy and Policy, presented Board Policy 6300: Goals of Student Transportation Services for discussion. I did ask for retaining to be added to #5 because keeping our current staff and those we recruit is vital. The committee did support the addition.
