November 12, 2021

On Monday, I visited Weatherstone Elementary and volunteered in a terrific third grade classroom. Monday evening, I hosted a D9 Connection Meeting. On Wednesday, I visited Kingswood Elementary and provided assistance in two fabulous first grade classes. On Thursday, I attended Green Hope Theatre Company's outstanding performance of Puffs. A huge shoutout to the cast, crew, director-Mr. Comperatore, and parent volunteers! I will be wrapping up my week with multiple events on Saturday. On Saturday morning, I will be volunteering at two beautification events- one at Laurel Park Elementary and one at Green Hope Elementary. Later on Saturday, I will be attending the East Cary Middle School's performance of All Together Now.

This week as a Board, we had no meetings.

Next week as a Board, we have the following meetings (Please remember these meetings will be streamed live on the WCPSS YouTube Channel.):

  • Tuesday, November 16th at 2 pm-Finance Committee. Use this link to access the agenda. The items on the agenda are 2022 Employee Retention and Recognition Bonuses, recommended changes to daily substitute teacher rates, and update on staff compensation matters and LEA ESSER funding comparison.

  • Tuesday, November 16th at 3:30 pm- Work Session. To access the agenda, click here. The items on the agenda are Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant (MSAP) candidate schools and themes for 2022-2027 and Draft Two of the 2022-23 WCPSS Enrollment Plan.

  • Tuesday, November 16th at 5:30 pm- Board Meeting. Use this link to view the agenda. Some of the items on the agenda are a request for a waiver of Board Policy 7503: Telework to allow for two telework teacher workdays during the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, revisions to Superintendent Moore's contract to extend it by one year to June 30, 2025;  the Memorandum of Agreement with MAKO Medical, 2022 Employee Retention and Recognition Bonuses, recommendation to change substitute teacher daily rates, and more.

  • Wednesday, November 17th at 3 pm- Safety and Security Committee. At the time of this blog entry, the agenda was not posted. When the agenda is posted, you can access it by clicking here.

No sign-up form is required to attend the committee meetings. You can report the Board Room at the start time of the committee meetings.

If you are interested, you can submit written or video public comments. The forms to submit comments will be live from 5 pm on Friday until noon on Tuesday.

If you are interested in attending the Work Session, Board Meeting, and/or making in-person public comments, please visit this page and scroll down to click on the appropriate form. The forms will go live 48 hours prior to the start of the meeting (on Sunday) and close at 5 pm on Monday.

The next District 9 BAC Meeting will be on Thursday, November 18th at 6 pm. If you are interested in attending, please complete this Google Form and a Google Meet link will be emailed to you.

This week as a Board, we had three meetings on Tuesday, April 20th: Finance Committee, Work Session, and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, April 20th Finance Committee: David Neter, Chief Operating Officer; and Terri Kimzey, Senior Director, Budget; presented the budget questions submitted by Board Members and provided answers. On Wednesday, I watched the media briefing with Dr. Benjamin, ABC Science Collaborative, and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Dr. Benjamin presented information about the Test-to-Stay Program, initial analysis, and recommendations. To view the briefing, use this link . April 30, 2021

On Wednesday morning, I attended the student-led Tobacco-Free Community Forum. The students did a great job with presentations, voicing their concerns, and advocating. To view information about the event, click  here . Later on Wednesday, I attended two additional events: the East Cary Middle School Student Showcase and a press conference. From World Languages to Art to Culinary Club, the Student Showcase was fabulous! It was nice to see the creative student assignments and activities. The joint press conference with the County Commissioners was to announce a new initiative- ThreeSchool. Please note, the details shared during the press conference were the first details to be shared with the majority of the Board. This link provides information about ThreeSchool. On Thursday, I visited Northwoods Elementary and Kingswood Elementary. Seeing the students engaged, playing, and learning made for an outstanding morning.
