August 19, 2022

On Monday, I attended my first golf match at MacGregor Country Club. It was exciting to watch Apex, Cary, and Green Hope Women Golf Teams on the course! On Friday, it was time for some football at Cary High School. The band's halftime show was fantastic!

This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Work Session and Board Meeting.

At the Tuesday, August 16th Work Session:

  • Drew Cook, Assistant Superintendent, Academics; Michele Woodson, Senior Director, K-12 Curriculum Development; Kim Keith, Vice President of Youth Development, YMCA of the Triangle; and Teresa Jones, WCPSS Volunteer; provided an update on the WakeTogether Community Partnership.   • Dr. Robinson, Chief of Staff and Strategic Planning; Dr. McMillen, Assistant Superintendent for Data, Research & Accountability; Dr. Nash, Research Triangle Institute; and Michael Martin, Research Triangle Institute, reviewed the work completed so far on the Strategic Plan and received feedback on the goal framework.   • David Neter, Chief Business Officer; and Dr. Muttillo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources; presented the recommendations for the 2022-23 Salary Schedules. Click here to view the recommendations.

At the Tuesday, August 16th Board Meeting:
  • Superintendent Moore provided an overview of the topics from the Work Session: WakeTogether, Strategic Plan, 2022-23 Salary Schedules, and transportation update.

  • David Neter, Chief Finance Officer, presented the budget reconciliation recommendations for Board approval. The Board approved the recommendations 9-0. Use this link to review the recommendations. 

  • David Neter presented the 2022-23 salary schedules for Board approval. The Board approved the pay increases 9-0. To access the approved 2022-23 salary schedules, click here

  • Glenn Carrozza, Assistant Superintendent; School Choice, Planning, and Assignment; presented  two options for proposed updates to the 2022-23 instructional calendar for year-round schools. This week as a Board, we had three meetings on Tuesday, April 20th: Finance Committee, Work Session, and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, April 20th Finance Committee: David Neter, Chief Operating Officer; and Terri Kimzey, Senior Director, Budget; presented the budget questions submitted by Board Members and provided answers. On Wednesday, I watched the media briefing with Dr. Benjamin, ABC Science Collaborative, and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Dr. Benjamin presented information about the Test-to-Stay Program, initial analysis, and recommendations. To view the briefing, use this link . April 30, 2021

On Wednesday morning, I attended the student-led Tobacco-Free Community Forum. The students did a great job with presentations, voicing their concerns, and advocating. To view information about the event, click  here . Later on Wednesday, I attended two additional events: the East Cary Middle School Student Showcase and a press conference. From World Languages to Art to Culinary Club, the Student Showcase was fabulous! It was nice to see the creative student assignments and activities. The joint press conference with the County Commissioners was to announce a new initiative- ThreeSchool. Please note, the details shared during the press conference were the first details to be shared with the majority of the Board. This link provides information about ThreeSchool. On Thursday, I visited Northwoods Elementary and Kingswood Elementary. Seeing the students engaged, playing, and learning made for an outstanding morning.
