October 14, 2022

On Monday, I visited SCORE Academy for their RAMP (The Recognized ASCA Model Program) presentation. On Wednesday, I visited Apex HS for their RAMP presentation. Thank you to all the work being done to support all our students! On Thursday, I attended Green Hope High School's Orchestra Concert. Outstanding job Concert Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. A special shoutout to Director-Mrs. Lewis. After the concert, I was able to head to the gym to see the last several points--and the Green Hope Volleyball Team's victory point! On Friday, I will be attending Apex High's Homecoming football game.

This week as a Board, we had no meetings.

  • Tuesday, October 18th at 4:00 pm- Work Session. The item on the agenda is Draft 2 of the WCPSS 2023-24 Enrollment Plan . Use this link to view the agenda.

  • Tuesday, October 18th at 5:30 pm- Board Meeting*. Some of the items on the agenda are North Carolina Symphony, first reading of Board Policy 3420, and more. Click here to access the agenda.

On October 24th at 6 pm, D9 will be having a Board Advisory Council Meeting at Apex High School. District staff will be presenting information about Draft 2 of the Student Enrollment Plan.

I will be hosting another D9 Connection Meeting on Sunday, October 30th at 7:30 pm. This is an informal meeting for me to listen to you. If you live in D9, have a student attending a D9 school, or work in a D9 school, please join us using this Google Meet link.

On Wednesday, I started my day at the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Eye Opener Breakfast with guest speaker Superintendent Catherine Truitt. On Wednesday, I visited Salem Elementary and provided assistance during carpool at dismissal. On Thursday, I attended the Wake County State of the County Address. You can watch the recording of the State of the County at  this link . This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Work Session and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, November 2nd Work Session: Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services, shared the history and status of the School Mental Health Improvement Plan. Paul Koh and Dr. Muttillo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, provided an update on the voluntary COVID testing program and the federal mandates regarding staff testing and vaccination status. The Memorandum of Agreement with MAKO Medical will be presented for Board approval on November 16th. This is my final blog as the D9 Representative of the Wake County Board of Education. I want to thank all the students, families, school staff, and community members that have taken the time to email, speak with me over the phone, attend a D9 Connection Meeting, attend a Board Advisory Council Meeting or attend any Board Meetings. I appreciate hearing directly from you and am blessed to have had the opportunity to serve District 9.
