Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all the Veterans. We honor you for your service, sacrifices, and dedication to our country.

This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Facilities Committee and Public Hearing on Student Assignment Plan.

At the Wednesday, November 9th Facilities Committee Meeting:

  • Elizabeth Sharpe, Director, Facilities Design and Construction; and Shane Webster, Senior Facility Planner, Facilities Design and Construction; provided a project update for the Piney Plains Bus Transportation Center. Click here to access their presentation. 

  • Glenn Carrozza, Assistant Superintendent for School Choice, Planning, and Assignment; and Susan Pullium, Senior Director, Office of Student Assignment; presented an Area Crowding Considerations 101. Use this link to view their presentation.

  • Glenn Carrozza and Susan Pullium provided an update regarding their recent work with CAMPO and the Safe Routes to School Initiative. To access their presentation, click here.

  • Douglas Congdon, Program Executive, Facilities, Design and Construction; shared an update on the 2023 CIP Plan. The presentation can be viewed at this link.

At the Thursday, November 19th Special Called Board Meeting:
  • The public provided comments on the WCPSS 2023-24 Enrollment Plan.

Next week as a Board, we have the following meetings (Please remember these meetings will be streamed live on the WCPSS YouTube Channel.):
  • Wednesday, November 16th at 1 pm- Finance Committee. The items on the agenda are the Audit Committee Report and Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Use this link to access the agenda.

  • Wednesday,  November 16th at 2:30 pm- Work Session. The items on the items are the Special Education Service Self-Assessment Update and the Final Draft of the 2023-24 WCPSS Enrollment Plan. Click here to view the agenda.

  • Wednesday, November 16th at 5:30 pm-Board Meeting*. Some of the items on the agenda are the Equity Policy for Second Reading, Proposed Changes to the 2023-24 Instructional Calendars, the Final Draft of the WCPSS 2023-24 Enrollment Plan, Pay Proposal for Non-Transportation Employees Serving as Bus Monitors or Drivers, and more. This week as a Board, we had three meetings on Tuesday, April 20th: Finance Committee, Work Session, and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, April 20th Finance Committee: David Neter, Chief Operating Officer; and Terri Kimzey, Senior Director, Budget; presented the budget questions submitted by Board Members and provided answers. April 30, 2021

On Wednesday morning, I attended the student-led Tobacco-Free Community Forum. The students did a great job with presentations, voicing their concerns, and advocating. To view information about the event, click  here . Later on Wednesday, I attended two additional events: the East Cary Middle School Student Showcase and a press conference. From World Languages to Art to Culinary Club, the Student Showcase was fabulous! It was nice to see the creative student assignments and activities. The joint press conference with the County Commissioners was to announce a new initiative- ThreeSchool. Please note, the details shared during the press conference were the first details to be shared with the majority of the Board. This link provides information about ThreeSchool. On Thursday, I visited Northwoods Elementary and Kingswood Elementary. Seeing the students engaged, playing, and learning made for an outstanding morning. On Wednesday, I watched the media briefing with Dr. Benjamin, ABC Science Collaborative, and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Dr. Benjamin presented information about the Test-to-Stay Program, initial analysis, and recommendations. To view the briefing, use this link .
