The students did an outstanding job sharing their powerful work.

This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Student Achievement Committee and Policy Committee.

At the Monday, June 28th Student Achievement Committee:

  • La'Kesha Spruill-Roberts, Director, Intervention and Advanced Learning, presented an AIG Programming update. To access the presentation, use this link.

  • Marlo Gaddis presented revised Policy 3225 R&P: Student Technology Responsible Use. The Board does not approve R&P. To view the updated R&P, use this link.

  • Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services; presented revised Policy 4400: Attendance. I did seek clarification regarding the addition of: "The school principal determines whether a submitted medical statement is sufficient to excuse a student’s absence." Superintendent Moore verified that "medical statement" does not include a statement from a medical professional. To review the policy, click here. The revised policy will be presented at a Board Meeting in the near future for Board approval.

  • Paul Koh presented revised Policy 1610/7800: Professional Learning and revised Policy 6120: Student Health Services. Revisions reflect changes based on requirements related to the school-based mental health plan. To access Policy 1610/7800, use this link. To view Policy 6120, click here. These policies will be presented for Board approval at a future Board Meeting.

  • Dr. Rodney Trice, Assistant Superintendent, Equity Affairs; presented a recommended new Policy 1150: Equity. This policy was also presented for discussion at May's Policy Committee. I mentioned that at our last Policy Committee, suggestions for adjustments to the definition of equity were given by multiple board members, but there were no notations or adjustments made based on that feedback. I also asked for more clarification regarding the first bullet point on page two so folks can understand what personal data will be used and how it will be used. To review the policy, use this link. This policy will be brought back to the Board for discussion at a future Policy Committee.
