June 17, 2022

This week was full of celebrations! On Monday, I attended Score Academy's Graduation. On Tuesday, I attended Apex Friendship's Graduation. On Wednesday, I attended Cary and Green Hope's graduations. On Thursday, I attended Apex High School's graduation. Later on Thursday, I hosted another D9 Connection Meeting. 

Congratulations to all the 2022 graduates! Thank you to the staff, families, and community supporters for encouraging these students along the way.

This week as a Board, we had no meetings.

Next week as a Board, we have the following meetings (Please remember these meetings will be streamed live on the WCPSS YouTube Channel.):
  • Tuesday, June 21st at 4:00 pm- Work Session. Items on the agenda are work in support of the Strategic Plan and Overview of WCPSS Office of Security. Use this link to access the agenda.

  • Tuesday, June 21st at 5:30 pm- Board Meeting.* Some of the items on the agenda are multiple contracts for maintenance and operations, technology, home health services, SROs, and various others services, four policies presented for second reading, one policy for first reading, appointment to Wake Tech Board of Trustees, interim budget resolution for 2022-23, Board of Education General Counsel, 2022-25 WCPSS AIG Plan, and more.   • Wednesday, June 22 at 3 pm- Facilities Committee Meeting. Items on the agenda are naming for the new Central Services Facility in Cary, naming for the new Pre-K Center adjacent to Millbrook Elementary School, school openings and renovations update, and security discussion. On Wednesday, I started my day at the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Eye Opener Breakfast with guest speaker Superintendent Catherine Truitt. November 5, 2021

On Wednesday, I visited Salem Elementary and provided assistance during carpool at dismissal. On Thursday, I attended the Wake County State of the County Address. You can watch the recording of the State of the County at  this link . This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Work Session and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, November 2nd Work Session: Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services, shared the history and status of the School Mental Health Improvement Plan. Paul Koh and Dr. Muttillo, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, provided an update on the voluntary COVID testing program and the federal mandates regarding staff testing and vaccination status. The Memorandum of Agreement with MAKO Medical will be presented for Board approval on November 16th. December 2, 2022

This is my final blog as the D9 Representative of the Wake County Board of Education. I want to thank all the students, families, school staff, and community members that have taken the time to email, speak with me over the phone, attend a D9 Connection Meeting, attend a Board Advisory Council Meeting or attend any Board Meetings. I appreciate hearing directly from you and am blessed to have had the opportunity to serve District 9.
