On Tuesday, I visited the Career Accelerator Program for a portion of their Career Immersion Day. I was with a group of WCPSS students at Wolfspeed. It was wonderful to see the excitement about STEM education and careers. On Friday, I visited the Raleigh Girls Club. It was wonderful to hear more about this amazing program and see firsthand the great things happening at the Girls Club.  This week as a Board, we had no meetings. This week as a Board, we had three meetings: Finance Committee, Work Session, and Board Meeting. At the Tuesday, July 19 Finance Committee: David Neter, Chief Finance Officer, presented an update on the 2022-23 Operating Budget. District staff will be bringing back more specifics in August. The current plan is to have staff's proposed pay rates voted on at our August 16th Board Meeting. To view this presentation, click here . At the Tuesday, July 19th Work Session: Glenn Carrozza, Assistant Superintendent, School Choice, Planning and Assignment; and Tamani Anderson Powell, Director, Magnet Programs; presented proposed updates to the 2022-23 Instructional Calendars.  On Wednesday, I hosted a D9 Connection Meeting. This week as a Board, we had two meetings: Student Achievement Committee and Policy Committee. At the Monday, June 27th Student Achievement Committee: Jill McKenna, Assistant Superintendent, Special Education Services; Steph Watson, Senior Director, District Management Group; and Joe Costello, Senior Associate, District Management Group; provided a high-level overview of the findings of their review of the Wake County Public School System special education systems and programming.
